Did you catch last month’s in-house latte art competition here at A&E? Wait, the what?!
Last month we held a small TNT masquerading as an open house to
dip our coffee toes into the pool. Thursday Night Throwdowns, or TNTs, are a grassroots coffee industry event series where baristas get together in the name of good spirits, camaraderie and the craft or excellent coffee. Sometimes hosted by a single café or roaster, sometimes hosted by a rotating schedule of participating venues, the TNTs build community, increase fellowship and are just plain fun.
Last month we had so much fun that we knew we wanted to invite other baristas to join us for a full-fledged TNT. We’ve attended TNTs in Portland, Maine, and they are wonderful for getting to know people in the industry in a fun and casual way.
TNT’s are not just for industry insiders though. Our September 12 TNT will begin with a lesson on steaming and pouring at 8 p.m. The barista latte art competition kicks off at 9 p.m. Anyone is welcome to participate.
Admission is $5 and the full proceeds will benefit Coffee Kids, an organization that supports projects in coffee-farming communities throughout Latin America to improve education, health care, economic diversification, food security and capacity building.
