Norma Lara is a small producer in Ocotepeque, Honduras, close to the boarder of El Salvador. She has just under two acres of land, given to her by her father in 2010. She works in the cupping room at Cocafelol co-op, and is striving to produce better quality coffee every year. In 2016, she was able to produce around 30 bags of green, of which we were able to get 13. She also experimented with the honey process, which turned out very well. Norma’s coffee took 1st place in a blind cupping competition. “The excitement on Norma’s face when her coffee won 1st place was shear joy and pride,” said Emeran. Norma really sees coffee as a legitimate career and means of livelihood for both her and her 15 year old daughter. They both take classes at the co-op learning organic horticulture methods, processing methods, and cupping for quality. “As a single parent, her husband was killed several years ago, coffee is her link to stability for her and her daughter.”
About Our Coffee
Certified organic coffee is produced according to sustainable practices, without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or other harmful agrochemicals. In order for a coffee to be certified organic, the farm must undergo evaluation from an independent certifying agency. The U.S. has its own organic standards, requiring a roasting facility to be annually inspected and certified in order to be labeled ’organic.’

A traditional farming method in which coffee trees are grown alongside other crops under a canopy of taller trees. The mixture of vegetation prevents erosion and protects the coffee from harsh weather. Shade grown farms also provide vital wildlife habitat.
