One Little Word is an idea inspired by Ali Edwards. Several years ago, she came up with a idea to use one word as a resolution. The simpler the goal, the easier to remember and follow through. I came across this concept via my cousin, Kia Bondurant. She is a photographer in Kansas City, as well as a vibrant, authentic, creative, inspired, woman, mother, wife, and business owner. On a visit to her house, I noticed a wall in her kitchen hand-painted with words of inspiration: creative, mercy, hope, genuine, love, beautiful. Upon asking her the genesis of the wall, she said it started with a Word of the Year. As a goal setter, this concept resonated with me instantly.
With the advent of 2016, I have been thinking about what I want to personally focus on for this year: engaging with people in a more personal way; not being SO busy that I can’t see (recognize) the important things in life, the things that have lasting impacts; be available physically and emotionally for those around me; make time to take better care of the things I own, including myself. And then it happened. The word that sums up my 2016 resolutions popped into my head. NURTURE.
The definition of NURTURE is the process of caring for and encouraging the growth or development of someone or something. What a fantastic word. One little word. It sums up exactly what I want to do in 2016, nurture. I encourage you to find a word of the year for yourself. Challenge yourself to be a better person to yourself and those around you. Below is a list of words that may inspire you.
