Craft Comes to Manchester

September 1, 2014

“Why Manchester?”
Not only is this a question A&E owner Emeran gets a lot, this is also the beginning of her recent Business Spotlight in LivableMHT, in which she divulges her vision for A&E Coffee Roastery as well as her passion for all things craft.

“The craft movement across the country has reinvented the art of production. In our high-intensity, instant gratification, efficient world, the appreciation of craft in any avenue of life is resurging. Manchester is prime to embrace this movement.”

The concept of “craft” – that is, the focus on quality ingredients and artisan products is a big part of who A&E is. It is the reason we roast all our beans in house and why we blend several of our teas as well. Specialty drinks are thoughtful, creative products made with in-house infused milks and cold extracted coffee. And our passion for quality leads us to implement WBC (World Barista Competition) standards for in-house espresso drinks. Quality drives everything we do.

Aside from our obsession with craft and quality, A&E seeks cultivate a lively coffee culture and share craft coffee knowledge. We host Latte Art competitions via our Thursday Night Throwdowns (check out A&E’s website for event listings), and hold classes on coffee cupping using the SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) cupping protocol, as well as tea analysis using the STI (Specialty Tea Institute) protocol. At A&E we aim to do more than just produce an excellent product – we want to cultivate the culture surrounding these products and enhance the community that enjoys them.

On that note, keep an eye out for our Manchester Café’s Grand Opening during September 11-14. The café will be filled with musical performances, poetry workshops and poetry slam competitions, and, of course, plenty of coffee and tea tastings.
